I didn't even think about the instant (well, nearly instant) gratification part of it!
I have a very well developed aversion to pastels, so I completely understand about the non-foofy thing. And anyway, kids should be dressed like kids! Not little adults. I love stuff that makes them look like roly-poly oompa loompas.
