I took my first knitting class last night and had so much fun! It was a goofy little class, with kind of a loud but friendly lady teaching and 5 students all sitting around a little table in the middle of the yarn section of Pacific Fabrics. The class included a big guy and an 11-year old girl (of course the girl got everything right away and was knitting circles around the grownups). We learned the basics last night, casting on, knitting, and purling. I have a practice piece that looks kinda crappy but the point is, I am knitting!
Sometimes I think my spatial abilities have gotten worse as I've gotten older, or maybe I haven't been challenging them enough so I'm out of practice. I used to be one of those kids who was really good at looking at a complex 3d diagram and being able to mentally unfold all the pieces, or understand how things fit together logically. Now I find myself scratching my head at the instructions on a sewing pattern and eventually, after sticking the pants legs together backwards and having to rip the seams, getting it right. Knitting feels like that at first. Learning totally new things can be frustrating but it makes my brain feel good :)
On another note, William posted an iTunes meme, so I did it too. This is my work iTunes, which is kind of weird as it includes music that I used in creating library presentations that is not necessarily of my taste :) And lots of yoga/world music because it's kind of pleasant and non-distracting to listen to in my office.
