I decided that, while I enjoy the mental break of walking/running on a treadmill while watching tv shows on my iPhone, I don't think it's doing all that much for my body shape or posture. Weight lifting is really the way to go, I think. And I keep reading that free weights and using your own body weight resistance is better than the machines. So I worked up a plan for the week and went to the gym at lunch... damn if I can't find everything I need in any one room or space down there! The IMA has mats, all kinds of free weights and racks and bars and machines and stability balls located across 4 floors and a bunch of different rooms. It was kind of frustrating to be wandering all over the place looking for equipment. I'm thinking the top floor will be best for most things, but I'll probably have to carry a bunch of stuff up with me. Or change my plans. Curses!

make your own at home! free weights are inexpensive, especially on Craigslist. keep cruising those ads. the right deal (with bench included!) is sure to arrive.

p.s. you look fantastic, as always, darling. :)

Actually I used to have a weight bench. I think it ended up at the dump after the cats ripped open the padding and it sat outside for a long while. My basement often smells like a cat litter box so I'm much rather be at the gym looking out at the cascades :)

I didn't know the weight machines were on more than one floor. I think once I spent about forty-five minutes looking for my favorite ones to little avail, gave up and used the rowing machine instead.

I like weight training because the impact of jogging is kind of rough on me. It feels good to be strong. Good luck ! :)

w00t for weights! As far as having to search all over for the equipment you need, i'd suggest to keep it simple. There's a lot you can do with just one bar, or a kettlebell, or a pair of dumbells.

I have been doing this and it is fabulous:

It is great to be outside, working out in a park. I have been doing things I never thought I could. I think the closest would be Volunteer Park for you. I believe there is at least one other group that offers this type of class in Seattle
